Radio Airplay, Testing Music & Advice to DJ/Producers
Getting Radio Airplay
Initially - The best thing to do
is to stay in the clubs testing your songs before going straight to a radio station. Make sure it's a hit before taking it
into the station for review. If the fans start to vibe it, then it just may be time to take it to the station. Be sure to
get those same fans or followers of your music to call and request your joint (song).
Most cities have Djs in clubs,
that are also the same Djs at the radio stations. Now this doesn't mean that they control what's being played at the station,
but if they're spinning in the clubs, then they may be able to assist with the review process during new music meetings, or
for play during the mix show. More on Radio >
Testing songs and music in the clubs
|
I'll test a song a number of times
before the party really gets started to see if people are actually "vibing-it", or to see if there are positive
reactions, heads bobbing, people not leaving the dance floor, etc.
If people stay on the dance floor
or actually seem to vibe it, then I'll chance spinning it later in the night - once it's been tried a few times. After so
many attempts (if no response), it just makes it obvious that it may not be the right song for an artist to push at the time
or maybe never. They may just need to try a new song or stay in the studio ‘til they think they have another hit.
Advice for up-and-coming music producers
The best thing for producers is to
continue to make hot tracks that will make and create a name for themselves as hot producers. Your tracks will eventually
start talking for you.
